Whiskey Up

By Hugh Moffatt

It’s whiskey up, bartender, I’ll take anything you’ve got

I’m drinking my way down the well, sinking shot by shot

I’ll face the truth tomorrow if I make it through tonight

It’s whiskey up I’m drinking down until I see the light

This warm and friendly atmosphere is what I’m looking for

‘Cause what I got at home is lonesome staring at the door

The music and the conversation help to take my mind

Off that cold empty room that waits for me at closing time

It’s whiskey up, bartender, I’ll take anything you’ve got

I’m drinking my way down the well, sinking shot by shot

I’ll face the truth tomorrow if I make it through tonight

It’s whiskey up I’m drinking down until I see the light

I know I’m just another heart broke barstool fool to you

But no one’s done nobody wrong, no one’s been untrue

She didn’t want to go, Lord knows, she tried so hard to stay

And then last night she closed her eyes and just faded away

It’s whiskey up, bartender, I’ll take anything you’ve got

I’m drinking my way down the well, sinking shot by shot

I’ll face the truth tomorrow if I make it through tonight

It’s whiskey up I’m drinking down until I see the light

It’s whiskey up I’m drinking down, Lord, help me see the light.

Why Don’t I Love You

By Hugh Moffatt

You are beautiful and you love me

We’re a perfect fit, it’s plain to see

There is no one else I love, it’s true

So why don’t I love you

I have tried to make myself believe

You will always be the one for me

You’ve done everything that you can do

So why don’t I love you

I have never felt like this before

Aching heart as I walk out the door

Leaving both of us without a clue

Why don’t I love you

          (solo)

I have never felt like this before

Aching heart as I walk out the door

Everyone has dreams that don’t come true

But why don’t I love you

Everyone has dreams that don’t come true

But why don’t I love you

Undead Love

By Hugh Moffatt

Should have called it quits when I felt love dying

Good as it’ll get is a night of lying

But I can’t resist this unholy yearning

Moonlight through the mist, my soul is burning

I start turning

Undead love, Siren song

Kills the will, makes right wrong

Nothing lives, hope is gone

Undead love chills the blood, still goes on

Staring at your face, now your eyes are glowing

Love has been replaced by a hunger growing

Dying in your arms isn’t love we’re making

It’ll do us harm, the night is breaking

Something’s waking

Undead love, Siren song

Kills the will, makes right wrong

Nothing lives, hope is gone

Undead love chills the blood, still goes on

Moving to your touch, I begin believing

This time it’s too much; it’s too late for leaving

Piercing to my heart God the pain is fright’ning

Tearing me apart like a bolt of lightning

Undead love, Siren song

Kills the will, makes right wrong

Nothing lives, hope is gone

Undead love chills the blood, still goes on

Undead love chills the blood, still goes on

Champagne Stains

By Hugh Moffatt

Waking up this morning, I am feeling warm and fuzzy

Picking up my clothes I call to see if you are busy

Little spots are on my shirt, I hear you say hello

Then I hear another voice and I hang up the phone

Champagne, just a little trouble

Champagne, all about the fizz

Champagne, bursting little bubbles

Champagne stains

You and I walked out together with a little bubbly

The wind was soft, the stars were bright, everything was lovely

When we made it back again the party time was spent

My heart isn’t broken now, but it’s a little bent

Champagne, just a little trouble

Champagne, all about the fizz

Champagne, bursting little bubbles

Champagne stains

Rinsing out my shirt I realize I’m being silly

You are just someone I met at Bill and Cindy’s party

Nothing really happened there, no promises were made

It was just the summer night, the starlight and champagne

Champagne, just a little trouble

Champagne, all about the fizz

Champagne, bursting little bubbles

Champagne, that’s the way it is

Champagne, just a little trouble

Champagne, all about the fizz

Champagne, bursting little bubbles

Champagne stains

Champagne stains

Till the Morning Comes

By Hugh Moffatt and Jonas Fjeld

I've heard restless winds calling you

Seen the colors in your eyes

Running wet from troubles deep within

Leaving comes as no surprise

Stay with me till the morning comes

Let me hold you one more time

Stay with me till the morning comes

Maybe I can change your mind

Seems a shame to waste a night like this

Big old moon shining bright

Come to me and close your distant eyes

Just until the morning light

Stay with me till the morning comes

Let me hold you one more time

Stay with me till the morning comes

Maybe I can change your mind

Time changes everything

Let's leave the past behind

It's not forever

It's just one night at a time

            (solo)

Stay with me till the morning comes

Let me hold you one more time

Stay with me till the morning comes

Maybe I can change your mind

Stay with me till the morning comes

Let me hold you one more time

Stay with me till the morning comes

Maybe I can change your mind

Sunset on Misery River

By Hugh Moffatt

Way up north in the land of sorrow

Somewhere out of the way

There's a little town called Misery River

On the shore of Misery Bay

And every evening the townfolk gather

Hardly making a sound

They wander together down to the river

To watch the sun go down

Sunset on Misery River

Sunset over the bay

Sunlight raining down like fire on the water

Sun just sinking away

There goes Frankie, she shot Johnny

She can't love no other man

There's Eleanor Rigby and Father MacKenzie

Walking down on the sand

Up on the street leaning hard on that lamppost

Is Mr. Lonely himself

Nobody here knows how long he's been here

Longer than anyone else

Sunset on Misery River

Sunset over the bay

Sunlight raining down like fire on the water

Sun just sinking away

Me, I'm sitting here watching the others

And writing a postcard or two

Just to let you know how I'm getting by

Getting over you

Sunset on Misery River

Sunset over the bay

Sunlight raining down like fire on the water

Sun just sinking away

Sun just sinking away

Santa Claus and Jesus

By Hugh Moffatt

(spoken)

My little boy came up to me

He's nearly five years old

He said, "Daddy, what does Christmas mean?

I really need to know

Well, is it Jesus's birthday?

Or gifts from Santa Claus?

Should I be giving thanks to God

Instead of getting toys?

(sung)

As I looked into his eyes

I saw the answer there

So I told him, "It's all right"

As I held him near

And I said...

Santa Claus and Jesus

Are not so far apart

Santa lives in children's dreams

Jesus in their hearts

Christmas is for children

The baby Jesus born

Santa's like the wise men

Bringing gifts on Christmas morn

We are all like children in His eyes

Why shouldn't we believe in Santa Claus?

I don't think Jesus minds

Santa Claus and Jesus

Are not so far apart

Santa lives in children's dreams

Jesus in their hearts

Christmas is for children

The baby Jesus born

Santa's like the wise men

Bringing gifts on Christmas morn

Bringing gifts on Christmas morn

Close as I Long to Be

By Hugh Moffatt

Even a stone can hear you (Joshua 24:27)

Even the blind can see

Let me be ever near you

Close as I long to be

Silent I listen for you

Waiting to hear my name

Call me and I’ll go with you

Never again the same

Closer, closer

Closer, my Lord to me

Closer, closer

Close as I long to be

Soft as a rustling sparrow

Sweetest I’ve ever heard

I hear your voice and follow

Rising up on your word

Closer, closer

Closer, my Lord to me

Closer, closer

Close as I long to be

Even a stone can hear you

Even the blind can see

Let me be ever near you

Close as I long to be

Close as I long to be

She Don’t Know Me Now

By Hugh Moffatt

You don’t know me like she knows me

You don’t really try

You just take me like you find me

Let the rest go by

You love so much, maybe too much

More than I allow

You don’t know me like she knows me

She don’t know me now

Though she knows me well, it’s true

She will never see

The man that I am here with you

What you found in me

And I feel so good, maybe too good

Having you around

She don’t touch me like you touch me

Like I’m heaven bound

(solo)

Just like her I never knew

What you saw in me

The man somehow I’ve turned into

The man I want to be

I’m rearranged, I woke up changed

I swear I don’t know how

You don’t know me like she knows me

She don’t know me now

I’m rearranged, I woke up changed

I swear I don’t know how

You don’t know me like she knows me

She don’t know me now

Sparks from an Old Flame

By Hugh Moffatt and John Scott Sherrill

Sparks from an old flame

A little wiser but still game

Old picture, new frame

Not just old friends

With love that is unchanged

A rose by the same name

Sparks from an old flame

Are burning again

Here's looking at you

Smiling at me

Just like you used to

When we first met

It's not over yet

It's feeling brand new

If this is a dream

It’s still coming true

With love that is unchanged

A rose by the same name

Sparks from an old flame

Are burning again

(solo)

Sparks from an old flame

Are burning again

Long Wide Open Road

By Hugh Moffatt

Remember the days when our love came alive

You’d slide over next to me while I’d drive

And all we could see was the stars in our eyes

And that long wide open road

We’ve traveled a whole lot of miles since then

Got bucket seats with belts to hold us in

Some wear and tear from time’s howling winds

And curves and cracks in the road

But the stars still shine

I see them in your eyes

They’re calling us to go

Riding side by side

To the end of time

Out on that long wide open road

We used to raise Cain in a borrowed bed

Been raising a couple of kids instead

It’s easy to see now they’re turning their heads

To that old wide open road

For all of their ragged and reckless pride

There’s something calling them deep inside

And we couldn’t hold ‘em back if we tried

They’re gonna find their own road

And the stars still shine

I see them in your eyes

They’re calling us to go

Riding side by side

To the end of time

Out on that long wide open road

Here we are again you and me

Look at me now, can’t you see what I see

(solo)

Yeah, the stars still shine

I see them in your eyes

They’re calling us to go

Riding side by side

To the end of time

Out on that long wide open road

Out on that long wide open road
